Special Cooperation for Architecture Student Workshop Miyajima 2022

This workshop is organized by Art and Architect Festa, a non-profit organization, with the aim of “encouraging students majoring in architecture and environmental design to leave the campus and create actual social works in a given location under the guidance of lecturers who are mainly architects active in Japan and abroad. The purpose of the program is to “create actual social works of art in a particular location under the guidance of instructors who are mainly architects.
We are providing special cooperation from the viewpoint of nurturing the bearers of the “artworks”.
Two advisors from MHI participated in the competition, and Sakurai, the president of MHI, served as a critic.
The stage for the 2022 project was Miyajima in Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima Prefecture. The Otorii (Grand Gate) of Itsukushima Shrine was undergoing repair 145 years after its construction in 1875.
Forty-seven students selected from all over Japan were divided into 10 groups and worked on the follies while learning about the historical background and characteristics of the site.
