An in-house study session for Weibull Distribution was held.

2024.4.22

The Technical Division hosted an in-house study session on the Weibull distribution, a probability distribution concept, by inviting an outside lecturer.
Until now, the normal distribution or lognormal distribution has been used as a statistical distribution when calculating the design strength of glass, but the 2022 edition of JIS (R3111-3) recommends the use of the Weibull distribution.
In this study session, after the lecture, participants practiced conducting glass fracture experiments to calculate the design strength by statistical processing using the Weibull distribution.

▼ Weibull Distribution
Weibull distribution is a probability distribution concept proposed to statistically describe the strength of an object, and is also used to statistically describe the reliability of a system, such as degradation phenomenon with respect to time. In the case of a chain being pulled, it is understood as a weakest link model that assumes that the entire chain is destroyed when the weakest link in the chain is destroyed. This model is useful when there are many factors that affect the strength and life of an object.

KIT STEM Navigation is a website for learning mathematics, physics, and engineering published by Kanazawa Institute of Technology. In order to facilitate the learning of engineering, we are working on structuring the knowledge by associating the knowledge of engineering and its underlying mathematics with hyperlinks, so that you can easily refer to the knowledge you don’t understand if you have any questions.
