50 Years Since GRC Technology Introduction. Facade Engineering Connecting to the Future

2025.10.15

GRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement), introduced to Japan in 1973, is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The Japan GRC Manufacturers Association, which has been involved in GRC’s development for many years, is promoting activities to pass on the legacy of this technology to the future, displaying a commemorative logo reading “Thanks to You, Half a Century”.

Masayuki Sakurai, Chairman of the Japan GRC Industry Association and Chairman of our Board of Directors, will participate in a panel discussion at the special lecture within “JAPAN BUILD TOKYO 2025” (Tokyo Big Sight), which will be held starting Wednesday, December 10.

Lecture Date and Time: Thursday, December 11, 2025, 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM
Lecture Topic: Through the 50-Year History of GRC

Moderated by Professor Tsuyoshi Seike of the University of Tokyo (Construction Methods), alongside architect Katsuhiko Endo (Principal, Katsuhiko Endo Architects) and Associate Professor Ryohei Kumagai of Tokyo University of Science, we will discuss the future of GRC and the potential of architectural exteriors with leading experts from various fields.

Since its founding, AGB has played a role in facade engineering while advancing alongside the development of GRC technology. We view this milestone of “half a century” not merely as a retrospective, but as a starting point for envisioning the next 50 years.
