An interview article introducing Asahi Building-Wall (AGB)’s initiatives has been published as part of a dialogue series by the Construction DX Research Institute.
This dialogue was conducted as an initiative to explore how digital technologies are being utilized in practical settings, focusing on the theme of implementing DX (Digital Transformation) within the construction industry. Representing AGB were: Yukio Taniguchi, Head of the Production Division; Katsutomo Fujiwara, Deputy Head of the Production Division and Head of the DX Department; and Kousuke Akita, Head of the Manufacturing Center and Group Leader of the DX Department. The discussion was moderated by Anri Okamoto, Representative of the Construction DX Institute, and Taito Oe.
In Part 1, we addressed the longstanding challenges in facade engineering practice: the information gap between design and construction, and the tendency for decision-making processes to become overly dependent on individual expertise.
At AGB, we have been exploring how to systematize and share the tacit knowledge and experience accumulated at each site within our integrated system that handles design, manufacturing, and construction end-to-end.
The dialogue introduces the initiatives we have pursued with this awareness of the challenges, along with lessons learned through actual projects, using concrete examples.
The latter part discusses the implementation of process and manufacturing management utilizing digital technologies such as BIM, 3D models, and RFID, as well as how the digital skills of young engineers are combined with the experience and judgment of veteran engineers. The discussion clarifies that the focus is not merely on introducing tools, but on translating them into a form that is “Usable” on-site and embedding them into daily operations.
This dialogue article presents the initiatives AGB has accumulated through daily practice, organized and articulated through the perspective of an independent third party, the Construction DX Research Institute. It offers valuable insights for those interested in practical approaches to bridging design and construction, the transfer of technical expertise, and the accumulation of organizational knowledge.
The full article, comprising both Part 1 and Part 2, is available on the Construction DX Research Institute website. We encourage interested parties to take a look.
