We have introduced an acoustic environment on the 4th floor of our headquarters (Brackish Water Area) — An attempt at zoning using plant-integrated sound devices

Asahi Building Wall Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “AGB”) has implemented “sound veil,” an acoustic consulting service provided by Otonoha Co., Ltd., on the 4th floor of its headquarters (Brackish Water Area).

The 4th floor of our headquarters has been named “Estuary” as a space where people with different roles and perspectives come together. Just as freshwater and seawater mix, this space is designed to be an area where diverse ideas and conversations intersect, giving rise to new concepts.

On the other hand, in an environment where conversation and concentration coexist, the nature of sound determines the quality of the space. Rather than silencing conversation, the goal is to create a setting where sound does not become an excessive distraction. We approached the design of this acoustic environment from that perspective.

The sound environment we have implemented was designed to harmonize the space. Three plant-based sound devices have been placed in the center and at the boundaries of each area, serving as gentle “Dividers.” By creating a composition that blends naturally into the visual landscape, we have enhanced the environment without disrupting the continuity of the space.

This initiative also incorporates the concept of zoning through the use of sound. It aims to gently create different environments—such as those conducive to relaxation or concentration—depending on the purpose or situation, with the intention of gradually altering the character of the space within a continuous flow rather than dividing it.

Since its implementation, users have commented that the system “Creates a sense of calm without being noticeable” and that “Conversations seem to have a softer tone.” We are currently working to determine the optimal settings for volume and operating hours by adjusting them via cloud-based controls through the Sound Veil management interface.

At AGB, we do not view creativity as something that happens by chance. We believe that creativity is nurtured not only by individual qualities but also by the cumulative influence of the environment and culture that support it.
We view this acoustic renovation as part of the ongoing process of revitalizing our spaces.

At AGB, we will continue to update our spaces through ongoing experimentation and validation, striving to create an environment that fosters creativity.
