This workshop is organized by Art and Architect Festa, a non-profit organization, with the aim of “having students majoring in architecture and environmental design leave the campus and create actual social works in a given location under the guidance of lecturers, mainly architects who are active in Japan and abroad. We have provided special cooperation from the viewpoint of fostering the bearers of “artworks”.
In fiscal 2017, the festival was held at Enryakuji Temple, the head temple of the Tendai sect of Buddhism, located between Kyoto and Otsu City, which was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site as part of the “Cultural Heritage of Ancient Kyoto.
The participants created works based on the historical context of Mt. Hiei in this sacred place that preserves a forested space and ancient traditional architectural style rarely seen in Japan.
Sakurai, the president of the company, served as a critic, and our employees provided on-site support during the process of creating the artwork.
